Starting with a Firm Foundation

Capstone Custom Homes - digging a foundation

The foundation may not often get much attention when designing a custom home, but few things are more important. A solid foundation provides structural integrity and protects your house from leaks and other major problems. At Capstone Custom Homes, we take the foundation stage very seriously, making it a key focus of our building process and contracts.

Specifics of the Dig

All home-building begins with site excavation. As part of our contract, we will pay up to $250 to cover building permit expenses for your lot. We will then excavate the basement and frost footers. Our excavation team will create a positive slope away from the foundation and perform rough grading for drainage. This will make the home less susceptible to potential issues related to rainfall and water runoff.

Lot-Specific Grades

Depending on the configuration of your lot, there are several custom options we can provide. Talk to your sales consultant if you’re interested in an allowance for a walkout basement, want larger windows for the basement, or any other custom modifications.

Waterproofing the Basement

Basement waterproofing doesn’t just protect your home from flooding — it also provides protection against mildew growth and other maintenance issues. To ensure lasting protection, our foundation services include GMX Ultrashield Waterproofing, which comes with a 30-year manufacturer’s warranty. We also install a gravel and plastic layer beneath the basement’s concrete slab.

A firm foundation is quite literally the groundwork for a high-quality custom home. We’re proud to provide strong attention to detail in each phase of our work to ensure that your home’s foundation is built to last.
